Mary Josephine De Souza My wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, was born on the 19th September 1935 in London, Ladbroke Grove. As a young child she lived with her mother Doris and father Patrick and sisters and brother at Blechydon Street. Mary went to the local school St Francis. When the war broke out Mary was evacuated to her aunt Edie in Great Yarmouth, where she a a wonderful time and was showered with love and comforted whilst she was away from home until the war ended in 1945. Mary was sad to leave her aunt Edie but happy to be reunited with her mother and father, sisters Rita, Patsy, Doris, Edie and her only brother Philip. Mary in her teens met beloved husband Easton, after arriving in the UK from Jamaica. They started married life together which didn’t go without the difficulties they faced in the 50’s with colour and creed. Their strength carried them through and was blessed with 3 children, first born was daughter Sonia, second daughter Edith, who unfortunately died shortly after her birth, then their son Easton Ricardo known by the name Ricky. Mary and Easton as difficult as I was to loose a child, found the strength to pour all their guidance and love to Sonia and Ricky. They struggled as most families did back then but Mary’s resilience and persistence with the council, finally provided them with a council house in Slough Berkshire. Mary was finally so happy to have provided her family with a home. So sitting on the council offices steps day after day, badgering them finally paid off. Both parents worked hard to provide a loving and comfortable home. As a mother she was the world’s best, she loved unconditionally, her husband and children Sonia and Ricky. The lovely memories the family shared both children getting married and the grandchildren that followed. The first born was granddaughter Tania, grandson Stacy Mark to her daughter and husband Raymond. Then came Zak and Pascha-Rose to her son Ricky and wife Julie. They were her life, she protected them like no other. God help anyone who tried to hurt them, they loved her so much, she often would say I love them so much it hurts. We all remember the family get together, the parties and celebrations. These were the times she loved the most, all the family together. But Easton and Mary had a dream, that dream was to take them to Spain, Mazarron. They had visited Jamaica on holidays to re-visit Eaton’s roots and Spain on family holidays. Mary’s heart was torn, leaving her children and great grandchildren, sisters and brother behind, but she knew Easton loved the idea of them having a new chapter in their life. All the family gave them their blessing, and another excuse for a party to wish them well and to visit them on holidays. They left the UK in November 1999 to their new villa on Camposol, what an adventure this has been, they embarrassed their new life made lots of friends, Joan and Eddie, Brenda and Ivor to name but a few and long standing friends for years Peggy and Marcus. Mary’s heart was always with Sonia and Raymond and Ricky and Julie and all the grandchildren back in the UK. Mary and Easton had many holidays and Christmas trips to the UK and when their great grandchildren were born to their grandson Stacy and Partner Victoria and had the joy of them. What memories and happy times we have had, a mother truly invaluable, indispensable and unforgettable. We wouldn’t want anyone but you, that’s why er are so grateful that life picked you for us.
